It was crafted for Ortigia in collaboration with Threads of Hope, a foundation in Cairo established by linen company Malaika that teaches valuable sewing skills to women to improve their economic standing and independence.
Il gattopardo, the leopard, is an animal that has symbolised Sicilian culture for centuries — from the Middle Age mosaics at the Palazzo Dei Normanni to literary works of the 1900s.
It was chosen in 2006 as the mascot for Ortigia Sicilia, incorporated as a motif throughout the brand's lustrous packaging and products.
Now, il gattopardo has again been used for this pochette, proudly silk screen-printed by hand on premium unbleached Egyptian Cotton Canvas.
